Ski by the Hour
If you only have half a day or are recouping from jet-lag, Banff's Mt. Norquay offers skiing by the hour. Buy a lift ticket and build up your ankle and leg muscles gradually. Or finish your holiday with a last triumphant morning on the slopes! www.skibanffnorquay.com

Skate for Free
Canmore's downtown skating pond is only two blocks away. Borrow or rent skates and take them a turn or two around the ice. Even if you don't skate, playing ball hockey in the snow is fun too. Hot chocolate in your room is a great way to finish this fresh air experience.

Sliding on Cemetery Hill
Put on your snow pants and boots and trek over the #1 Benchlands Trail overpass to the slopes just below the hoodoos on the north bench. New snowboarders and crazy carpet regulars find this a great practice area and meeting place for snow fun any sunny afternoon.

Dogsledding and Icefishing
Get to know the dogs and how they helped settle the early north. Take a tour and mush your way along the Kananaskis Country trails about half an hour from Canmore. Learn how to fish and bait your hook for an outing at the Spray Lakes near town. Daytrips of various lengths are available from local operators. Check at the front desk for brochures and contact numbers.
